چکیده

1 Motivation The compliant walking models are often used for reproducing characteristic gait dynamics [1]. However, since they require the touchdown angles to be chosen independently, there is a limited explanation for the foot placement selection in relation to the state of the body. In this study, it is hypothesized that the foot placement is indicated by progression of the center of pressure (CoP) towards the forefoot during the single stance phase.

Comparing Foot Placement Strategies for Planar Bipedal Walking

A number of foot placement strategies for walking have been proposed that make use of widely varying model complexities. Although a number of successful demonstrations have been individually shown in simulation and on physical robots, it is difficult to make a direct performance comparison due to the large differences in hardware, gait generation strategy, control system gains, actuator saturat...

Optimal Foot Trajectory Planning of Bipedal Robots Based on a Measure of Falling

This paper presents a falling‐based optimal foot trajectory planning method (FOFTP) for the effective walking of bipedal robots in three‐dimensional space. Our primary concern is to determine the optimal footstep location for the more balanced walking of bipedal robots based on a measure of falling. A proper strategy for the intermediate trajectory of the swing foot is als...

Gait control by foot placement for humanoid robots

Humanoid robots are used as a research tool to understand bipedal locomotion. When pushed, a humanoid robot must be able to avoid falling and return to a balanced configuration. This is called push recovery and can be achieved using proper foot placement. Depending on the freedom of movement, one or multiple steps are taken to accomplish this goal. It is expected that foot placement can also be...

Exploiting Natural Dynamics in the Control of a 3D Bipedal Walking Simulation

Natural dynamics can be exploited in the control of bipedal walking robots: the swing leg can swing passively; a kneecap can prevent the leg from inverting; and a compliant ankle can naturally transfer the center of pressure along the foot and help in toe off. These mechanisms simplify control and result in motion that is smooth and natural looking. We describe a computationally efficient algor...

Foot Placement Indicator for Balance of Planar Bipeds with Point Feet

If humanoid robots are to be used in society, they should be able to maintain their balance. Knowing where to step is crucially important. In this paper we contribute an algorithm that can compute the foot step location such that bipedal balance is maintained for planar bipeds with point feet and an arbitrary number of non‐massless links on a horizontal and ...
